Theia will deliver persistent, imagery-led vessel detection across a large European area of responsibility
WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — SynMax, a data-fusion intelligence company delivering geospatial, energy, and maritime domain awareness products, today announced a 12-month contract to deliver its Theia maritime domain awareness platform to a major European defense customer. The agreement covers persistent monitoring of a large European area of responsibility.
Theia was selected following an evaluation period in which the customer tested the platform against live operational requirements. The platform will be delivered with dedicated onboarding, training, and ongoing analytical support from SynMax.
Most maritime monitoring systems begin with a vessel’s own broadcast and task imagery to confirm it. Theia inverts that sequence. It detects vessels independently using broad-area satellite imagery, then checks those detections against AIS. That order matters: a vessel that is not transmitting, is transmitting a false position, or has gone dark is still found, because the platform was never relying on the transmission in the first place.
That capability is increasingly central to European maritime security requirements, where operators need verified positional evidence of activity around critical maritime infrastructure and of vessels operating outside sanctions regimes. Detections are corroborated by SynMax analysts and machine learning models, producing evidence an operator can act on rather than an inference they have to defend.
