TACC Launches Its 11th Partnership Site to Bring Low-Cost Mental Health Care to Underserved Communities

The program addresses the lack of low-cost trauma-informed care and the clinician shortage in Atlanta.

The need for mental health care typically results from trauma. To help clients heal from trauma, we integrate body-centered practices into our work.”

— Dorothea Lotze-Kola, Executive Director

ATLANTA, GA, UNITED STATES, August 22, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today, roughly 25% of American adults experiencing a mental illness receive no treatment. More than 60% of youth with severe major depression go completely untreated.

Fifty years ago, Atlanta community leaders recognized this need for affordable, compassionate mental-health and spiritual care. They created the Training and Counseling Center (TACC) to fill the enormous gap between private therapy and ending up on the street.

TACC makes care affordable, trains people to provide it, and brings it into the community through partnerships throughout Atlanta. These include:

– Atlanta Children’s Shelter
– Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence
– Motherhood Beyond Bars
– Crossroads Community Ministries
– Year Up Greater Atlanta
– Central Outreach and Advocacy Center
– Holy Comforter Friendship Center
– Emmaus House
– Nicholas House
– Church of the Common Ground

TACC is proud to announce Lutheran Towers as its 11th partnership site, bringing affordable therapy and spiritual care to seniors living in subsidized housing.
“The need for mental health care typically results from trauma,” Dorothea Lotze-Kola, Executive Director of TACC, said. “To help heal from trauma, we integrate body-centered practices into our work with clients, including yoga and other holistic support.”

CLINICIAN SHORTAGE —TACC addresses the shortage of trained therapists and chaplains to provide mental and spiritual care through two programs:
– Counselor Internship and Residencies
– Clinical Pastoral Education

ON-SITE TRAINING—Interns and residents receive hands-on supervision and training during their master’s education and as they prepare for licensure.
SOURCES OF SUPPORT—TACC is supported through charitable grants – a funding source that is diminishing in today’s economic environment. TACC accepts online donations.

50th ANNIVERSARY GALA—The Atlanta community is invited to celebrate TACC’s 50th anniversary by attending its fundraising Gala on September 26, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or by donating directly.

TRAINING AND COUNSELING CENTER is a non-profit training and counseling center located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. TACC offers counseling, support groups, CPE training, and workshops through a social justice lens. We are trauma-informed, spiritually integrated, and welcome all who walk through our doors.
