Austin Artist Puts 250 Years of American History on Your Skin

Inside the Austin Studio Turning America’s 250th Into One-of-a-Kind Body Art

Austin, United States – June 3, 2026 / Arthouse Tattoo /

AUSTIN, TX, June 1st, 2026 — While the country prepares to mark America’s 250th anniversary with fireworks, festivals, and limited-edition everything, one Austin studio is taking the celebration skin-deep. ArtHouse Tattoo, the custom tattoo studio founded by husband-and-wife team Mike and Tanya Metaxa, is launching a series of large-format original designs that turn 250 years of American history into wearable art.

“We are starting our own revolution — a movement to bring exceptional custom body art to Austin,” says Mike Metaxa, owner of ArtHouse Tattoo. “Austinites deserve the best, and poor or mediocre does not cut it anymore. America’s 250th anniversary is the right moment to put that into action.”

The initiative features a growing collection of original designs celebrating the people, events, and symbols that shaped this country over two and a half centuries — from founding fathers to frontier legends, from the stars and stripes to the untold stories woven into the American fabric. Each piece is drawn by Mike Metaxa in traditional Americana and neo-traditional styles. Each piece is one of a kind — available until someone claims it as their own.

The Art

American traditional and neo-traditional tattoo styles are not only wildly popular — they are also the perfect visual language to tell the story of the American revolution in: bold, jumping off the skin, demanding attention, rich in details yet tasteful, the closest to the kind of illustrations you’d find in old American history books. Precisely because of it, this is also the easiest style to say yes to, and never regret that decision.

The Studio

ArtHouse Tattoo has been woven into Austin’s creative life for over a decade. Located in a two-story renovated house on Ranch Road 620 — a building with its own piece of American history, physically moved from across Texas and rebuilt from scratch — the space brings together a custom tattoo studio, photography space, and private artist gallery. Part studio, part gallery, part refuge from the ordinary — it exudes the unmistakable creative Austin vibe. With over 150 five-star reviews and more than twenty years of experience behind the needle, Mike Metaxa has built a reputation for custom work that clients carry for life.

ArtHouse also shows up beyond the studio walls. Through its highly popular Cause for Paws Tattoopalooza events, the studio has raised thousands of dollars for Austin Pets Alive! and Austin Humane Society, making it as much a part of Austin’s civic fabric as its creative one.

The Series

America’s 250th anniversary series will grow through July 4, 2026 and beyond, with new designs released on ArtHouse Tattoo’s Instagram and Facebook pages as they are completed. Each design is a first-come, first-served original — once it’s claimed, it’s gone.
